THE FACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT

Unfortunately, there is an increasing number of children that are rushed to hospital each year as result of falling from windows and balconies. The majority of these result in serious or significant injuries, and fortunately can be prevented.

The most at risk are children aged from 1 to 5 years, as they lack the ability to recognise danger, and are naturally curious of their surrounds. With falls often occurring in the warmer months, when families leave windows open day and night, it is imperative that all windows adhere to the latest Government Legislation to ensure the best possible safety.

From 1 May 2013, The Australian Building Code states that any openable bedroom windows in new residential buildings, with a fall of two metres or more to the surface below, require protection to prevent children falling through them. This also applies to child care centres.
